Memories....

Do you ever sit and look through your archives of saved pictures on your computer? Well, that is just what I have been doing and it has prompted me to share with you some old photos. A couple of years ago, I ran my own little shop. I was lucky enough to have the space on the side of our house (It has since become my kitchen!)

I enjoyed that time very much, but running your own shop is a tremendous tie. Also I found it difficult to switch off from all the work involved, particularly as it was difficult to get any distance from it!! My youngest daughter was only 10 at the time (not to mention us having two older daughters too) and I felt that I couldn't give her the attention that she needed all of the time, either.

I used to sell handmade items, made by myself from vintage fabrics, as well as other vintage textile items and pretty antique treasures. I just don't think the village that I live in was ready for it!! As it was a small shop on its own in the village, it was very difficult to get custom through the door. This is why I progressed to doing the fairs and selling on-line.

Why not look through your archives and see what memories you stir?!

  2. My sentiments exactly! What a dream to sit in your own little exquisite shop, sipping pink champagne, the pooch by your side. Instead of living in London.

  3. Love looking at your pictures, wish I could step into that shop, my credit card would be too hot to touch. What did you do with all the things from the shop? Keep posting your pictures, I look everyday.

  7. Hi Niki, I love to see your photos of your shop! You had by far the most wonderful vintage shop I have ever been in! Just seeing all those glorious vintage treasures displayed is such an inspiration. If you were to open another, I'm sure you would do extremely well - I'd find something to buy every day - bank account willing!! Clare x

  19. Niki, your shop was gorgeous, what a dream! Except for the lack of customers. But at least you can say you did it.

In answer to your question about archives of old photos - I have a folder of pictures of garage sale finds I sold on eBay over a couple of years. Some of them I wish I had back again! That would be the hard part of having a shop, how do you part with all those pretties?

  20. Looking through archives is fun.

You were lucky to have had the shop. It was lovely. I have a friend who has a shop with hand made things from all over the world. I love to visit her shop.

  23. I, too miss my shop....but on second thought not that much....it was always so beautiful and that wasn't even reason enough for the public to beat the door down....I had about 50 loyal customers, but needed about 200....(grin)
